Students Achieve OCN Qualification
A GROUP of students from Coedcae secondary school will soon be awarded an OCN qualification for their new sailing skills.
Carmarthenshire Council’s Youth Service arrange for sailing instructors to deliver the course on Delta Lakes on Monday afternoons. The aim of the course is to get young people active and nurture essential skills.
Adrianne Ashton, school support youth worker, said: “The young people have developed many skills and we’ve seen big boost in their confidence. The course gives young people the opportunity to achieve qualifications through doing something they enjoy. With expert guidance, they have now gone from complete novices to having a full knowledge of sailing techniques.”
Coedcae pupil, Josh Price, added: “Learning to sail is an exciting experience, you have to learn how to take control very quickly. The reward of successfully dinghy sailing is brilliant and I’m definitely going to take this up as a sport”.
